While pondering what to choose for this month’s beer club, I realized that I had been stuck on a very small selection of breweries of late, all of them featured in this very club in the past. For that reason, I made it my goal to find something that, according to resources available to me, has yet to be highlighted here. Following a respectably arduous search, I uncovered a brewery that, lost in the scrolls and ancient tomes of this industry perhaps, hit the middle of the hasn't been featured in the club yet/ meets my standards for the club Venn diagram. “Aha!” I exclaimed and quickly secured the required amount. As the thrill of accomplishment faded however, I felt a nagging dagger at my back. “Et Tu Brutè?” I uttered as I realized that in my fervor, I had forgotten to consider the styles of beers I focused on most recently. Once again I had chosen beers – in this case, a saison and a tripel – similar to those selected in the past. Taste is fate I guess, but fret not: the selections this month from Glazen Toren are delectable, and their intricate flavor profiles quickly washed away any lingering feelings of failure.

Founded in 2004 by friends with a shared passion for home brewing, Glazen Toren quickly expanded beyond Belgium, and their beers are now quaffed by beer enthusiasts the world over. Their flagship, Saison d’Erpe-Mere, made it to the United States within 2 years of their founding, a speed which is not commonly seen in breweries with only 8 listed employees. Known for their nearby yeast and hop gathering and all-natural ales, they have quickly established a worldly following and continue to grow.

With the Ides of March behind us, these beers are a great way to welcome spring. The Saison is light and refreshing, perfect for the warmer days we’ve been having recently. On the other hand, the Tripel is heartier and more robust for any unexpected cold fronts that may appear.

Cheers,
