Grenache has all kinds of iterations. It is one of the most widely planted winegrape varieties in the world. Believed to have originated in Northern Spain (known as Garnacha) and inevitably migrating to France, eventually finding a cozy home in Southern Rhône in the 19th century. Considered a late-ripening varietal, Grenache loves a warm, dry climate and rocky soils… El Dorado County is a perfect fit! Our Estate vineyards (Stoney Creek in Fair Play and Green Valley in Rescue) each bring something unique to the table—Stoney Creek brings sultry elegance and Green Valley brings the upright structure—and while small percentages of each of these sites makes the cut for our El Dorado Grenache, we hold back the lion’s share for this “Grand Cru” style offering.
