Screw Caps
On the surface, cork may seem like the more sustainable choice, however, there are several factors to consider that negate its environmental benefits: Corks are imported from distant sources, while screw caps are manufactured locally, helping to reduce shipping emissions. Aluminum foil on bottles negates the environmental benefit, as more resources are used in the packaging. Cork taint affects 2-3% of all wines, resulting in volumes of wasted cork, glass, foil, labels, energy, barrels, and growing and shipping emissions.
