For our first Gin Club selection of 2021, we have chosen an exciting gin from Singapore. Tanglin Orchid Gin is the first gin to be distilled in Singapore. Although the country has a long history of gin consumption, it was not until 2018 that four expats decided to open a distillery to create the first dry gin produced there. In only a few years, Tanglin Orchid Gin has received international recognition, garnering awards at the San Francisco Spirits Competition and the UK’s SIP awards. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Cheers!

Tanglin Orchid Gin is distilled in Singapore from botanicals sourced locally and globally. The base spirit is distilled from wheat, and the gin is non-chill filtered, giving it a rich, full texture. Tanglin is named after an area of Singapore that was formerly covered in jungle. The jungle was home to tigers, as depicted on the inner label of the bottle. The Sanskrit name for Singapore is Singapura, meaning “Lion City.” The story goes that a Srivijayan prince once mistook a native tiger for a lion and thus the city was named. Today, both the jungle and the spice plantations that replaced it are gone; however, their legacy is evident in the imagery and place names found around the city. Tanglin Orchid is delicious in a Negroni (and variations thereon), or with Fever Tree Mediterranean Tonic garnished with a slice of orange and a cinnamon stick (recipes below).
