Gianluigi Lano 2020 Rocche Massalupo Barbaresco
Importer Notes: Gianluigi Lano is an understated, stoic man who works a small certified organic farmstead in San Rocco Seno d’Elvio, Barbaresco. His wines are complex and classically styled, but always offer plenty of truffle/floral intrigue to compliment the instantly gratifying dark fruit. There is no modern technology in the cellar. The most impactful "technique" is that Gianluigi refuses to release wines until they're truly ready to drink. If that means the Barbera needs 4 years in barrel/bottle or the Barbaresco needs 5 or 6, so be it. Each wine leaves the cellar when it is ready, and no sooner.
Our Tasting Notes: Old school Barbaresco with a dark mineral nose blending notes of dark cherry, tobacco, cola, and graphite. Full bodied with Nebbiolo's trademark firm tannins and high acid, this dry wine is bursting with flavors of cherry licorice, dried rose, hibiscus, and bitter orange with a long almost amaro like finish. Decant for a hour or two if drinking now.
