The Alfrocheiro, more commonly associated with the Dão region further north in Portugal, makes an Alentejo appearance in this cherry and black-fruit-flavored wine. Its earthy character will soften as it matures and it will be a generous wine to drink from 2020.
The floral notes of the “Loureiro” are merged to perfection with the fruit of the “Alvarinho”. The result is a complex, elegant wine with a long, persistent after-taste.
Quinta da Aveleda is the ideal choice to accompany refined salads comprising seafood, goat cheese-based starters and dishes made from white meats such as turkey or chicken. It must be drunk very cold at a temperature of 8 to 10ºC.
This estate whose name means four winds is in the Douro Superior, the easternmost part of the Douro region. It is intensely rich and solid—a classic blend for the region with a dominance of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, aged in wood and with plenty more aging ability. This black-fruit-flavored wine will be best from 2020.
With an attractive ruby colour, Charamba Tinto presents a very fruity nose, with notes of blackberries, raspberries and spices. In the mouth, this wine stands out with its elegance and smoothness, with persisting fruity notes at the end.
Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz
Dark and intensely purple. Subtle aromas of rockrose and gum-cistus. There are layers of bitter chocolate flavors with the characteristic freshly-ground black pepper finish.
Only produced or 'declared' in years of exceptional quality and represent a very small percentage (2 - 3%) of total Port production. The backbone of Dow's Vintage Ports are drawn from the companies' finest vineyards, Quinta do Bomfim and Senhora da Riberia. Each property contributing to the wines unique character and class.
Aged in wood for approximately 2 years and bottled unfiltered, Dow Vintage Ports are considered to be amongst the finest Vintage Ports produced. These fine wines can be enjoyed young and vibrant or allowed to aged for many years in bottle, developing their very own style, very different from all wood aged Ports.
Medium amber. Powerfully scented bouquet combines cherry compote, cola, molasses, pipe tobacco and brown sugar. Lush and expansive in the mouth, offering sweet pit fruit and orange marmalade flavors and a deeper note of espresso. Clings tenaciously on the finish, which leaves notes of bitter cherry and candied flowers behind. - Josh Raynolds

Quinta da Levandeira do Roncão Reserva 2009 is red in colour and has an aroma seductively complex. It reveals notes of black and red fruits, a touch of black pepper, cedar wood , chocolate, rosemary and exotic woods, making it a superior wine. Richly concentrated, it presents a robust structure, with strong and integrated tannins, good acidity, a rich and lingering finish. A robust but balance soft Douro blend of 50% Touriga Nacional and 50% Touriga Franca.
Crimson red rim and surprisingly opaque core, belying its 13 years. Very fragrant nose with aromas of red fruits: strawberry and raspberry as well as nuances of mint and rockrose. On the palate, medium to full-bodied, opulent and packed with rich brambly fruit flavours. Well-rounded peppery tannins render the wine very approachable now whilst suggesting further considerable ageing potential.
Only three to four times a decade are the climatic conditions ideal in the Douro Valley to produce a sufficient quantity of exceptional wines which will allow shippers to declare a Vintage. Vintage Port is aged in oak casks for two years before being transferred unfiltered to the bottle, where it has the potential to mature for decades. The 1977 is a classic Vintage with tremendous structure and fruit. This wine is a sheer delight and truly deserves its numerous accolades... intense cherry aromas, full bodied with well knit tannins.
Pair with: chocolate desserts, such as chocolate mousse, creamy blue cheeses like Stilton or Roquefort.
Founded in 1670, Warre & Co. is the oldest British company in Portugal and one of the most highly esteemed port shipping firms in the world. It was the first Port company to build a lodge in Gaia for the proper ageing of its Ports.
Ruby color with a garnet rim. This Late Bottle-aged Vintage port (LBV, meaning the port spent about as long in oak as a ruby port but then a much longer time in bottle before release) shows mature red and dark fruits on the nose (red cherries) and floral notes of elderflowers. The palate is elegant and full of finesse with a backbone of freshness and flavors of red cherries and floral notes. The finish is long and lingering.
