Francois & Fils Cote Rotie

$73.99

Our Côte-Rôtie cuvée comes from the estate’s five plots. These plots, “le Bourrier”, “Fongeant”, “Janet” and “Rozier” are located in Côte Brune (north of the appellation).

This terroir is characterized by a shallow soil composed mainly of metamorphic rock: mica schists; the exposure is to the South from east to west depending on the plots.

Part of the “fongeant” terroir is made up of loess.

On "Rozier", mainly made up of schists, the soil contains a greater proportion of clays from the Bonnevaux L'Amballan formations.

It is the assembly of these plots, rich in the diversity of terroirs, exposures and vines of different ages which brings finesse, elegance and great complexity to the wine.

The average age of the vines is 30 - 40 years.

The grape varieties are mainly Syrah and 2 to 3% Viognier.

The planting density is 8000 to 9000 plants/ha.

The harvest is entirely manual and the grapes are partially destemmed.

Concerning the vinification, it includes a maceration of 3 to 4 weeks in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. Each plot is vinified separately in order to adapt the harvest date, destemming, extraction and maceration duration.
