Scott Harvey 2020 Vineyard 1869 Amadaor County Zinfandel
Winemaker Notes: Produced 89% from the Harvey Vineyard, America’s oldest Zinfandel Vineyard documented as existing in 1869. “Vineyard 1869” was planted in the days when horses were used for cultivation. This ancient vineyard is non-irrigated, stand-alone head pruned vines that fully express the Amador Zinfandel terroir.
Briary varietal layered Zinfandel medium claret color, majoram, spice, cigar tobacco, bright cherry, medium French oak, and layered complexity.
This well-balanced red will benefit from opening about an hour before enjoyment. It offers notes of cranberry, red and black cherry, fresh fennel, eucalyptus and menthol, complemented by chalky but ripe tannins. The finish is a solid medium in length. - 90 points, Wine Enthusiast (Stacy Briscoe)
Our Tasting Notes: From the oldest Zinfandel in the country, this wine is a real treat. Notes of dried violets, baking spices, and dark bramble fruit. Full bodied with grippy tannins and vibrant acidity, this wine shows rich flavors of cooked raspberries, black plum, and baking cocoa with a long chocolatey finish. This is a decadent wine with the structure to age. Decant and drink with a fatty piece of beef or lamb.
