The Kanosuke Distillery has partnered with leading Japanese Whisky authority Stefan Van Eycken to unveil a three-part showcase of their Hioki Pot Still Whisky. Ghost Series 23a, 23b, and 23c are a continuation of Van Eycken's selections that highlight the unconventionally avant-garde aspects of Japanese Whisky. Each of the previous Ghost Series selections are typically one highly collectable single cask whisky. This edition is a departure in that it is the first release in the series available in the U.S. and that it highlights 3 different expressions from the same distillery. Ghost Series #23c is an unpeated expression of Kanosuke's Double Distillery release that sees a marriage of both Hioki Pot Still and Kanosuke Single Malt. Single grain whiskies from the Ghost Series #23a and #23b were married with Kanosuke Single Malt and matured further in a fresh umeshu barrel for 10 more months. The result is an extraordinary blend that tickles the senses with aromas of baked apricot, sweet pastry, cherry compote, and brown sugar. The flavor is expansive with bright red fruit, maple, pancake, and a lush finish, full of candied citrus.
