Domaine Rozel "Les Frangins" Syrah
Importer Notes: Domaine Rozel is a true polycultural farm, and an ancient one at that. The property and cellar have been in the same family's hands for twenty-two generations, dating back to the 1400's. Wine is just one of many agricultural items produced by the Rozel family farm, which is arguably most famous across SE France for producing some of the finest white Asparagus in the country (they also farm lavender, truffles, grains, orchard fruit etc etc). But the wine is no "side show": AOP Grignan-les-Adhemar is the official northern border appellation of the Southern Rhone, BUT...this particular farm is distinct, and the reason we're so excited to represent Rozel is because the land feels a lot more like the Northern Rhone: granite slopes, old vine syrah/viognier blends, mineral and powerful Viognier. The vineyards – and resulting wines – feel like a chunk of Crozes Hermitage fell off and landed in the center of the valley.
