Mama Chuy Laurel Gin

We’ve been blessed with a lot of warm weather this summer (AKA gin-drinking weather!) and if you’re like me, you’re ready to restock your gin selection. Just in time, we have a new club selection for you! Mama Chuy Laurel Gin is produced in small batches at Satvrnal Distillery in Jalisco, Mexico in collaboration with mezcaleros Mama Chuy. It is truly a small batch gin (only 708 bottles total!), made by people who value the craft. As the days of summer wane, I hope you’ll enjoy a few gin drinks in the sunshine with good friends. See you in the fall!

Cheers!

Mamy Chuy Laurel Gin

Origin: Zapopan, Jalisco

“We do a very clean and quick fermentation and the wort is distilled to purity to serve as a white canvas for our botanicals. Our botanicals come from different parts of the world as we prioritize quality over origin. This being said, we try to source as much as we can locally. Our juniper comes mainly from Macedonia, and the rest of our botanicals (80%) come from Mexico. We started distilling in the summer of 2016 and left our office jobs to do full-time beverage production in 2019. We see distillation as an expression. It's like taking pictures for the taste buds and your nose. Gin is the foundation for us to experiment in our distillery. All we do is small batches and the whole distillery is run by 4 people. Our process is very analytical as we now own a distilled library to play around.”

-Pedro Andres, Master Distiller at Satvrnal Distillery

“For this particular batch, Mama Chuy & Satvrnal teamed up to create a dry new world gin with a balance of herbal, citrus, floral and juniper flavors and aromas.

Mama Chuy was founded in memory of co-owner Perla Portillo's late grandmother, who was called Mama Chuy by her loved ones. She had a small store in Torreón, Mexico where she would often make juices and "aguas". Mamá Chuy loved to bring people together around food and drink and we hope this gin inspires that in all of those who enjoy it.”
