Winery Notes: This Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the small "Russell's Block" at the Joyce Estate Vineyard planted in 1986 tucked away above the Carmel Valley Village. Carmel Valley still benifits from the coastal influences of the Monterey Bay but due to the smaller opening at the coastal end of the valley it is somewhat more protected from full coastal exposure compared to the Salinas Valley. The chalk rock laden soil combined with mildly warm days produce Cabernet Sauvignon with thick skins and robust tannins. This intense fruit creates wines of tremendous depth and energy. If consuming upon release a quick decanting is recommended but the real reward is to those who can wait several years after release as that is when this particular wine starts to shine.  

 Aromas of juicy blackberry, roasted tomato, harissa, fresh bay laurel, saddle leather are met with flavors of black cherry, blueberry compote, plum sauce, and stir-fried shiitake.
