6% Scottish stock pale ale dry hopped with whole flower Motueka
This is the second of three delicious new beers being released this Friday.
This stock beer combines pale ales of different ages (some over a year old from one of our earliest brews) brewed with Scottish malt, hopped with UK and German varieties. A final dry hop of whole flower Motueka was added to the blend.
The European hop varieties give earthy, herbal depth to the beer, as well as a refined, complex bitterness. The older beers are, of course, funkier, more acidic, whilst the younger have freshness and a clearer hop presence.
With careful blending, these different elements enhance one another to create something greater than the sum of its parts, intended to complement one of my favourite New Zealand hops, Motueka. It's an assertive but also graceful and delicate hop with aromas of tropical fruit and lime.
The beer glows golden with audacious froth, lemon thyme, orange blossom lime cordial, pineapple upside down cake and a white grape crushed with a pop twixt thumb and forefinger. It's sharp, clean, bitter, complex and refreshing with a lovely aged depth.
The name, as with Gavagai, is a reference of WVO Quine's work on the indeterminacy of translation. May you soon enter an Epochal drinking establishment and say, with perfect truth "Lo, a Momentary Rabbit Stage!"
