Our buyer Paul tastes and creates this exclusive blend for The PlumpJack Group. A little bit of Cab goes a long way, but the Cab on its own didn't cut it. Blending the other varietals rounded out the palate, brought out more berry fruit and gives the wine a little spice. The wine should appeal to the Cab drinker but also for those looking for GSM style.
This year the blend is:
35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Petite Sirah, 25% Syrah, and 10% Zinfandel
Contra Costa County provides the Lion’s Share of the grapes for this blend. The sunny and warm climate coupled with deep sandy soil and limited rainfall create grapes of great flavor intensity and dark color.
The North Coast Merlot provides a bright cherry and herbal character and excellent tannin.
Vineyard Notes: Mother Nature handed us another beautiful growing season in 2016. The moderate temperatures and ample sunshine allowed flavors and phenolic ripeness to develop at an even pace. The results are phenomenal.
Harvest: Our Petite Sirah is crafted from two of our favorite Napa Valley vineyards; Oso Vineyard which is located between Howell Mountain and Sugarloaf on the east side of Napa, and Langtry Vineyard located just outside of Pope Valley in the Northeastern corner of the Napa Valley. These two vineyards complement each other perfectly by bringing power and grace together, resulting in a beautiful expression of the varietal in the Napa Valley.
Fermentation & Aging: Fermentation took place in fully jacketed stainless steel fermenters after a 48-hour cold soak at 55°F. Maceration lasted 10-14 days at a maximum temperature of 95°F. The wine was allowed to settle for one week before going through malolactic fermentation and aging in 50% new French and American oak barrels for the next 18 months. IMPRESSIONS The 2016 Adaptation Petite Sirah yields its customary, dark purple hue, disclosing a lineup of wild berries, raspberries, violets, anise, hints of cloves, incense and baking spices. This full bodied beauty delivers a gorgeous texture with unparalleled freshness, giving way to the long, lingering finish.
A dark wine with aromas of chocolate, blueberry pie and spices. Medium-to-full bodied with notes of French oak and vanilla bean. A rich finish with chewy tannins and moderate oak create a delicate balance between fruit and body. This vibrant red blend reflects another excellent vintage in the Napa Valley
Shiverick and Jones
Dark ruby color with bold aromas of black licorice, black pepper, cherry, and baking spice. The entry is rich, full, and scintillating. The palate is mouthwatering and smooth with a hint of chocolate. The finish is voluptuous with soft, velvety tannins.
Blend: 85% Zinfandel; 15% Petite Sirah and Syrah
Featuring a juicy backbone of blackberry and dark cherry (highlights of a seamless structure), this wine shines in additional flavors of vanilla and leather. Full bodied, it holds its weight and breadth in check, delivering voluptuous within a classic framework of style and complexity.
Bogle’s “heritage” Petite Sirah is known for its concentration and jammy, luscious flavors. The 2016 vintage is no exception. Dark purple stains the glass, while inky and succulent blueberries and blackberries overwhelm the palate. Juicy plums and rhubarb come together, followed by touches of roasted, savory and earthy tones that round out the mouthfeel. Supple and spicy, this full bodied wine was aged in American oak for 12 months. Toasty vanilla, mocha and a bit of cocoa combine with ample tannins to create a finish with structure and character.
