The Macallan Classic Cut 2017 Limited Edition
The Macallan Classic Cut pours into the glass a beautiful burnished orange hue reminiscent of an autumn sunset. After a swirl in the glass you’ll notice the viscosity of this malt by how long and slow the legs run down the glass. Initial inspection elicits aromas of burnt orange peel, dried fig and dates along with a sweet-raisin sherry nose. Your first taste may be a punch in the face, but in a good, I like that, kind of way – similar to a really full-bodied red wine. The palate is rich and layered with confirmatory flavors of dark caramel, orange zest, and baking spices like nutmeg and clove. The finish is very long and mouth coating with a gentle spice and dryness lingering at the end. It would be a great ‘dinner’ whisky if you were into that kind of thing, something that would accompany a steak or lamb chops with ease. Try it during the dessert course with a crème brulée as well if you prefer or find yourself some chocolate covered dried figs or aged cheese for an even better experience. This whisky opens up even more the longer your bottle stays open as it breathes with the oxygen in the air, just like a red wine, so don’t be afraid to let it breath in your glass for a while before serving. Slainte!
