Founded in 1970, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars has a long and distinguished wine reputation and is considered a Napa Valley first-growth estate. They are best known for their estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons: CASK 23, S.L.V., and FAY.
S.L.V., also known as Stag's Leap Vineyards, is the winery's first vineyard. Planted in 1970, this vineyard achieved international fame when three-year-old vines from the 1973 harvest produced a wine that stunned the wine world when it bested some of France's greatest wines in a 1976 blind tasting known as the "Judgment of Paris."
CASK 23 is a tale of two vineyards that come together in a harmonious blend. For the 2013 offering, 45% of the fruit is from S.L.V. and 55% from the FAY vineyard, all 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged
21 months in 100% new French oak.
The 2013 CASK 23 combines the signature perfume notes of FAY vineyard with the structure and minerality of S.L.V. Aromas of black cherry, cola, currant and ripe figs begin the nose of this rich and opulent Cabernet Sauvignon. The palate is full of black fruit (black plum and black cherry) and blueberry flavors that lead to an intense, lingering finish with a touch of cocoa. Enjoy this CASK 23 with grilled New York steak, prime rib with jus, or black pepper-crusted Ahi tuna steaks.
