Goisot Bourgogne Cotes d'Auxerre La Ronce

Biodynamic Pinot Noir, single-vineyard. Replanted some 15 years ago to 12,000 vines per hectare, La Ronce was established with low yielding, massale selection vines that were specifically chosen for the site's warm microclimate. Each vine naturally yields only 2-4 bunches (about half to a third of what you would expect of a well managed grand cru site in the Côte d'Or!) Unlike the Domaine's other single site Pinot (from the chalk-rich Les Mazelots in Irancy), La Ronce is on white clay soils that are rich in fossils. This soil gifts a more seductive, sweet-fruited, 'Beaunois' style of Pinot than the Mazelots' more mineral, structured persona. Matured in oak barriques, one third new, two thirds used, this is a cherry bomb in 2015; a lovely, bright, pure and detailed red with a glowing, silky mid-palate, loaded with sweet/sappy/resinous fruit tapering to a youthful close with fine tannins and a kiss of iodine. It's the most balanced and seductive release of this wine and simply an outstanding red Burgundy.
