Donum Estate Carneros Pinot Noir

The Donum Estate (Donum translates from the Latin “to gift” and refers to grapes as a gift of the land) is devoted solely to Carneros estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay plus Pinot Noir from a Russian River and Anderson Valley properties. Winegrower and President Anne Moller-Racke trained with industry icons like Andre Tchelistcheff. She planted what was then Tula Vista Ranch in 1989-90, and was the Vineyard Manager for Buena Vista Carneros for many years. In 2001, when she and her former husband divorced, she split off 147 acres of the Buena Vista Estate, renaming it to found Donum Estate.

Their Donum Ranch covers the slopes of three hills in the Carneros region just north of San Pablo Bay. Nestled amid these hills is a diverse collection of Dijon clones and heirloom selections of Pinot Noir, which provide layering and complexity for their Estate blend. This results in a wine that perfectly balances elegance and richness, while expressing the unique terroir of Carneros.

According to winemaker Dan Fishman, “The 2014 Estate is bright ruby in color, with a nose that is classic Carneros: cherry, raspberry, and strawberry with a faint forest floor note. The palate is rich and lush, yet with plenty of balancing acidity that carries through as the flavors go from fresh cherry and berry through floral and on to sassafras and cocoa on the finish. This wine is just beginning to reveal its many layers.”
