Dehlinger Goldridge Pinot Noir 2014, Russian River Valley, CA

Dehlinger Winery is located in the heart of its 45 acre vineyard on a ridge of red gravelly soil in Sonoma County's cool Russian River Valley. The influence of maritime fog from the Pacific Ocean 13 miles to the West creates a climate favorable for hillside grape growing. What’s most surprising about this winery is that Dehlinger is one of those labels which has turned out consistently marvelous wines for over 30 years, but with no marketing, a modest web presence and even lack of phone number on the label, so only the most devoted followers have a clue.

Dehlinger produces two soil-specific Pinots. Their Goldridge Pinot Noir, with its bright aromatics, appealing red fruit flavor profile and approachable structure, pays homage to the deeper Goldridge soils where the vines tend to grow more vigorously.

According to a recent article from Antonio Galloni, “All of the 2014 reds are rich, powerful wines that are likely to require at least a few years to soften. The introduction of small amount of whole clusters and an increasing use of larger format barrels in some of the wines are among the choices that are will play a role in how the Dehlinger wines evolve stylistically in the coming years.”
