Wiengut J.B. Becker Riesling Kabinett Halbtroken “Wallufer Oberberg”
The Becker wines are delicate and subtle and always improve through aging in the bottle. Oberberg is the highest elevation site in Walluf, and the wines from this vineyard end up having the highest acidity of any of Becker's wines. He only makes a wine in this site when he feels there is suitable ripeness to make an off-dry wine, otherwise he blends the fruit into his basic "Wallufer" bottling. The wine has 15 grams residual sugar, and the soil is loam with a deep layer of loess as well. 2015 was a powerhouse vintage for Becker, with a full line of sturdy, tightly-wound wines that are destined to keep and develop for ages. The Oberberg is the most charming of the vintage, and the best for drinking now. The J.B. Becker 2015 Wallufer Oberberg Kabinett has the appropriate combination of sweetness, acidity, intensity, texture, and aromatic harmony to partner with many types of cuisine. Try it with fried or baked fish, Asian seafood dishes, cream sauces, sautéed mushrooms, roasted chicken, grilled pork chops, charcuterie, lemongrass chicken, crab cakes, roasted meats with pan sauce, pumpkin ravioli, roasted vegetables, and white-rind soft cheeses.
