Sziegl Bábel

2020 Sziegl Bábel (50% Kékfrankos, 30% Merlot, 10% Kadarka, 5% Zweigelt, 5% Portugieser) This is essentially a “Siller,” which is in between a light red and a rosé. More tannins than a whole cluster press, way more acidity due to the earlier picks, and more aromatics as well. It’s also the result of five harvest passes, multiple processing methods, and all with super gentle pressing. 60% of the Merlot was done in the hamburger method (layers of foot trodden, whole cluster, destemmed), 40% of the Kékfrankos was whole cluster, and the rest of grapes spent one night on the skins and were fermented in tank. Everything was then blended together and bottled unfiltered with around 15ppm of SO2. I wish we could drink this all year.
