October Beer Club

A promise between two friends and a dream come true.

Twelve years ago, Rob Archie and Peter Hoey promised each other that one day, they would open a brewery together: a safe place for people to meet and enjoy quality beer and food. Hoey came with brewing experience -- he was the former head brewer at Sacramento Brewing Company. The two began planning and creating the lay-out to open up shop; they even filed for their business to be recognized by the state of California. However, as with many of us, life happens. Hoey had to shelve the brewery plans after starting a new job that had him on the road. Nevertheless, the friends kept up their interest in beer: they developed a particular appreciation for Belgian styles such as Saisons. In 2016, they were finally able to begin realizing their dream in earnest. A massive industrial space became available in downtown Sacramento, and Archie and Hoey took this as a sign. The two dusted off the blueprints and began working on securing the space. In May 2018, they opened Urban Roots Brewing & Smokehouse. Known for their yeast-driven brews and tasty barbecue, Urban Roots is now one of the most popular breweries in Northern California. Urban Roots not only produces great beers of all styles, but serves as a social center for the community: a place for strangers to connect over the love of beer and food. If you’re ever in the area, Urban Roots is a must visit.

Cheers!
